The Hotel de Filosoof is located on a quiet street near Amsterdam's famous Vondelpark. Co-founded by a philosophy professor, each of the guest rooms is decorated to reflect a different thinker, or theoretical or cultural theme. You can choose the rich, classic decor of Spinoza or Wo-Man, or go for minimalist chic in Buddha or Wittgenstein. Those who "seek to live deliberately" should choose the calming earth tones of Walden. Individual themes aside, all rooms feature such amenities as private bath with hairdryer, ironing facilities, and alarm clock radio. Each room has a color television, but, in the spirit of the place, why not check out the hotel library instead? You can order a drink from the bar and enjoy it in the lounge, or soak up the sunshine in the splendid garden terrace. And, when you've confirmed your status as "armchair philosopher," you can partake in the Filosoof's frequent lecture and discussion evenings, open to locals as well as guests. Built in 1990, this 5-storey hotel boasts a total of 38 rooms of which 8 are suites, 3 are single rooms and 27 are double rooms. There is also 240m² of garden available to guests.
